Assessment is done in a continuous manner and takes on many different forms. The main function of assessing students’ learning is to receive direction for continued teaching or to make modifications to promote and ensure student growth. Continuous and varied assessment allows teachers to monitor progress, diagnose individual or group difficulties and adjust teaching practices. The assessment process informs me as to what individual students know and what they are able
to do in relation to the Alberta learner outcomes which can be found in the PDF under the Grade 1 curriculum tab.
Here is a breakdown of the various forms of assessment and what their purpose is in your child’s learning process:
Assessment for Learning is useful for teachers as we develop, modify and differentiate teaching and learning activities. It is continuous and sustained throughout the learning process and indicates to students their progress and growth.
